  • Original Item. Only One Available. The HGU-39/P is a chemical, biological, oxygen helmet and mask used in the 1980s. The basis of the HGU-39/P is an SPH-4 helmet without the visor cover. Cast aluminum oxygen mask receivers and Air Force communication components complete the basic helmet. A chemical hood can also be laced over the helmet and mask. This is just the basic helmet without any of the attachments.

This is a good unissued example of the HGU-39/P flight helmet in its original box, without any of its components. There are headphones, and the helmet retains its data tag:

    HELMET, FLYER’S HGU-39/P
    SIZE: X-LARGE
    STOCK NO. 8415-01-040-3128
    CONTRACT DLA_100-80-C-0201
    LOT NO. -8
    GENTEX CORP. 10 - 80

The tag shows a manufacture date of October 1980. The helmet’s suspension is in good shape, and the box retains the original pack of earcup spacers for the HGU-39/P. The original box measures 12¼ x 11¼ x 10½” and retains the original inspector’s label in a plastic sleeve on the side, which shows an inspection date of August 4th, 1986.

A lovely example in the original box, ready for further research and display.
