Original Item: Only One Available. An example of a Civil War Confederate brown leather flap holster for use with .36 Caliber 1851 Navy Type Percussion Pistols, either a Colt 1851 or the many Confederate copies, such as Griswold & Gunnison, Leech & Rigdon, J.H. Dance & Co. ,T. W. Cofer, etc. *Note: The revolver shown in photos is not included with purchase.*
The holster is made from top grade leather with all of its original stitching still intact and tight. It was designed to be worn "Butt Forward" on the right hip for use with the right hand, or reverse draw with the left hand. It should be noted the means in which this holster was constructed; being made from several pieces of salvaged leather, as in the Confederacy, materials were in short supply, nothing went to waste! The leather flap has dried over the years making it stiff, with some cracking due to age. The closure securing hole has torn as well.
The flap has a hole in which the brass securing stud is pressed through the holeon the flap.. It does have some cracking in the finish, and there is a repaired tear on the closure flap, but the typical Civil War holsters we see are usually far worse. This still is in very nice shape, and a holster han be placed inside and drawn without much difficulty. It would be the perfect accessory for any suitable Civil War percussion revolver, and an excellent piece for a Civil War Confederate collection!
