Original Item: Only One Available. This wonderful totally genuine New York Officer Chasseur Pattern Kepi dates to approximately 20 years after the Civil War.
Its a U.S. Army Model 1875 Chasseur Pattern Kepi featuring fabric of dark blue wool broadcloth. This kepi is in excellent condition. Complete with the NY embroidered initials inside a wreath, this dark blue broadcloth kepi has a 4.5" crown with an excellent quatrefoil design. It is complete with the eagle buttons on each side anchoring a gold braid. Only the lining is missing from the crown of this kepi which is otherwise in excellent overall condition.
The crown stands 3" high at the front, 5.5" at the rear seam and the top is 4.5" in diameter, stiffened with a pasteboard. The body of the cap meets a band of wool seamed only at the back and stiffened with leather. The cap's interior, with the exception of the crown, is lined with black cotton. The leather sweatband is 1 3/8" wide.
The flat visor is original to the hat, and composed of black patent leather. It is edged with oilcloth that is stitched in place. The kepi has a beautiful embroidered NY insignia badge at front center and a fantastic quatrefoil design in gold to the crown.
