Original U.S. Civil War Union Officer Slouch Hat with Officer’s Hat Cord & Bullion 8th Infantry Regiment Hat Badge

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a stunning example of a Civil War Union Infantry Officer’s Slouch Hat worn by an officer of the 8th Infantry Regiment, however we cannot determine if it’s for the Federal 8th Infantry or one of the state 8th infantry regiments. The hat is a typical 1860s manufactured hat, made of black fur felt with a very short silk hat band. The hat retains some of its sweatband and its officer’s cord.
The hat features an original Civil War officer’s bullion hat cord, which appears to have been placed on the hat for a very, very, long time. The hat shows signs of wear from honest campaign use during the war. Hand-sewn on the front of the hat is a beautiful example of a French Horn infantry badge with a velvet black backing and a bullion 8 attached at the center. The silk hat band is still tied off at the end with the ends still intact, rare to see.
The sweatband is in pieces, with roughly 60% retained overall. There is a tag attached by two safety pins which is close to coming off, reading X-55, likely the size.
The overall condition is quite nice and there are a few areas of material loss and tearing. Finding honest examples such as this one is rare these days and you do not want to pass up on the chance for this one.
