Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great piece of Civil War field gear, a large tin of 250 Hick’s Waterproof percussion caps. We have not counted to make sure there are 250 present, but it is about full. The lid of the tin reads:
250
HICK’S
WATERPROOF
U.S. MUSKET CAPS
AM. FLASK & CAP CO.
WATERBURY
CONN.
Percussion caps were an integral part of the kit of any soldier wielding a “modern” rifle or updated musket that uses them, as opposed to the older flintlock system. The cap works as a primer in lighting the gunpowder which propels the projectile. These caps were mass-produced by a myriad of companies across the north and south before, during, and after the U.S. Civil War.
The tin measures 1¾” tall with a 2⅛” diameter. A great piece, ready for further research and display!
