Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a gorgeous powder flask in the shape of a rifle’s buttstock, manufactured by Frary, Benham & Co. This is a very scarce model of powder flask, and this one is in great shape with a still-functional spout.
The brass spout is adjustable and marked "FRARY BENHAM & CO" on the spout itself. The overall length is approximately 8 1/4 inches. The only issue with the flask is that the three small screws which tighten the spout to the flask are missing. It still displays very well without them, and the spout is not loose by any means, but they are missing. Riling's POWDER FLASK BOOK records the firm as having operated in the mid 1850s for only two years before being replaced by the American Powder Flask Company. Both companies operated out of the same shop in New Haven, Connecticut.
This is a very scarce model of flask from the Civil War period. It is the first of its type we have offered. Comes ready for further research and display.
