Original U.S. Civil War Officers Haversack with Partial Carrying Strap

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a good service-worn example of a Civil War Officer’s haversack, made almost entirely from leather which has now become heavily weakened and stiff. The bag has a myriad of small patterned markings along the bottom of the bag and along the trim of the front flap, commonly seen on personal items of the period.
The bag retains its carrying strap which has completely broken off of one side, and is rather weak at the other end. Leather items from the Civil War period almost never survive, so to find one still somewhat intact like this is rare. The front flap opens but the leather is very weak and stiff, so it obviously couldn’t be used. The stitching on one side of the bag is heavily broken up. The front flap has two small straps which originally secured to the bottom of the bag, but both of the bottom pieces are either broken or no longer connect, and the ends of the straps have come off.
Offered in very worn but original condition, this is a very honest example of a Civil War era officer’s haversack, ready for further research and display! This will require some TLC and proper display!
