Original Item: Only One Available. This is an interesting Federal Issue Cartridge Box which has certainly seen some service during the American Civil War! This is a genuine Federal Issue leather Pattern 1855 .58 Caliber Cartridge Box without box plate.
Both original cartridge tins are gone, and the box is now severely misshapen because of that. The securing strap for the brass finial is gone.
The Outer flap has light surface wear with a latch tab that is attached by a row of stitching. The bottom of the box has both roller buckles and the brass final intact. Interior flap is intact with side ears of the flap both intact. The tool pouch is intact with a flap and closure tab. Please advise the condition of the leather which is horrible.
The reverse of the box has both belt loops and verdigris across the brass fittings. The box plate is gone.
This is a fair heavily misshapen example of a scarce cartridge box, a good representative example.
