  • Original Item. Only One Available. This sword is a handsome, imported, Civil War Infantry officer’s sword in very good, original condition complete with its matching brass-mounted leather scabbard, which still retains both hooks on the suspension rings.

The sword features a lovely 29” blade which is double-fullered. There are no markings anywhere on the blade, which was not uncommon on these imported swords during the Civil War, as these swords were imported by both the Union and Confederacy, and these sellers didn’t want to be seen supporting either side in an official capacity.

The hilt retains most of its gilt which is scarce to see, and the wire-wrapped sharkskin grip is very well-retained without any serious damage, but there is a small spot where it appears the wire was glued into place to stop it from unraveling further. The leather blade buffer is entirely gone.

The brass-mounted leather scabbard is in fair condition with a heavy bend near the end as shown. The stitching is heavily worn and missing, but the scabbard is still in one piece and fits the sword well. The brass fittings are all loose on the scabbard but still sit well for display.

A very nice example of a French-imported Civil War Sword, ready for further research and display.

    Approximate Dimensions:
    Blade Length: 29"
    Overall length: 34 5/8“
    Scabbard length: 30 1/4”
