Original Item: Only One Available. This is a black leather holster designed to fit the larger .44 percussion revolvers of the day. This included the Colt Army and Navy revolvers, the Remington Army, and several others. The leather still maintains the "profile" of a revolver cylinder in it. It appears t be the impression of a is Colt 1860 .44cal "Army" model.
The front edge of the holster "pocket" is 10 3/4" long. Black bridle leather is used to make the holster and shows signs of age. The flap and belt loop are separate pieces that are sewn to the back separately. The front of the flap has very faint unit/roster stampings, which appear to be a 4 over 42. The 42 is much clearer as the leather wearing away has made the 4 very faint.
Three rivets and a double line of stitching secure the belt loop, which is fragile but still unbroken! The leather plug is now missing from the bottom of the holster. On the body under the front flap is stamped:
J. CUMMINGS
SPRINGFIELD,
MASS.
This holster is in good condition overall, but it does show signs of use and age. The body is in good condition, while the flap has moderate crazing but little loss of surface finish and a small tear in it. This is a good military-style flap holster that can hold a large Civil War revolver.
