  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic Civil War Union Cavalry Officer’s Federal Chasseur Pattern Kepi that features fabric of very fine blue wool broadcloth. The crown stands nearly 3” high at the front, 4¼” at the rear seam and the top is 5 ¼” in diameter, stiffened with a pasteboard beneath the lining. The cap's interior is lined with lovely brown/gray cotton and is still mostly intact. The only piece of the cap which is not original is the leather chinstrap which was likely added recently. The two Cavalry buttons are original. The front of the kepi has a gorgeous period-sewn bullion Cavalry insignia stitched on.

The kepi no longer retains manufacturer information on the interior lining. This is a wonderful example that would be difficult to upgrade from besides having an original chinstrap. Otherwise it’s really tremendous. The underside of the sweatband is written 1863 and we believe this to be original.

There is some mothing in spots on the crown and around the kepi, but it displays very well. A phenomenal example, ready for further research and display.
