  • Original Items. Only One Lot Available. This is an unusually varied thirteen-piece group of original U.S. Civil War-era Federal Army, Navy, state, and branch-of-service uniform buttons and insignia, including a scarce late-pattern Dragoon button, Infantry and Artillery eagle buttons, an Engineer ESSAYONS button, Maine, Maryland, New York, and Michigan state buttons, a rare hard-rubber Navy button, and two small pieces of branch insignia. Several examples retain original gilt finish and desirable period maker or quality backmarks.

    The lot includes:

    - One “D” Dragoon rare Federal Eagle shield button, marked SUPERIOR QUALITY.
    - One “I” Infantry Federal Eagle shield button, Scovill. Gilt.
    - One “I” Infantry Federal Eagle shield button, not marked, little smaller than last one and heavily worn.
    - One U.S. Federal Eagle shield button, no back mark.
    - Gilt Maine state button, Scovill.
    - Gilt Maryland state button, Jacob Gminder of Baltimore.
    - Cap size New York state Excelsior button, EXTRA QUALITY marked.
    - Gilt Michigan state button, Scovil. Rare example.
    - One “A” Artillery Federal Eagle shield button, D. Evans & Co.
    - Plastic Navy button, very rare.
    - Essayons Engineer button by Scovil. Rare.
    - Small bugle infantry badge with loops.
    - Small musician insignia, loops or prongs gone.

The broad range of Federal branch, state, naval, and specialist insignia, together with desirable maker backmarks, surviving gilt surfaces, the scarce transitional Dragoon pattern, Engineer Corps button, and unusual hard-rubber Navy example, makes this a particularly useful representative group of Civil War-era American uniform hardware.
