Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Civil War vintage U.S. Moore's Patent Firearms Co. No.1 Derringer in .41 rimfire caliber. These were made in Brooklyn, New York, as marked on the top of the single shot barrel:
MOORE'S PATENT F.A. Co. BROOKLYN, N.Y.
On the barrels underside is:- PAT.FEB.24 1863 along with serial number 2056. There are sometimes assembly numbers on the chamber side of the barrel, but this example has a bit of wear, so it is not legible. The pistol is single shot, and is loaded by pulling back on the round button on the right side of the frame, which unlocks the 2 1/2 inch rotating steel barrel. Ejection of the spent cartridge was done by hand, usually at home, as these were not really designed for quick reloading.
The pistols frame is engraved brass, which was originally Nickel plated, a good amount of which is worn away. The barrel does show rifling, but also much fouling. The company was taken over by COLT after the Civil war was over and then marketed this same pistol as the COLT No.1 DERRINGER. This was then followed by a second model with Wood Grips and a THIRD MODEL DERINGER.
In lovely condition, cleaned and Ready to display.

These antique guns are not sold in "live" condition, and are not tested for the the ability to feed or load any type of cartridge. They are sold as collector's items or as "wall hangers" not for use, and we make no guarantees regarding functionality aside from what is stated in the description.
