Original Item: Only One Available. This is the standard Union Officer's Dress or Parade Sword Model 1860, as issued during the Civil War. The sword has its original scabbard which retains its hanging rings and ornate end-piece.
The sword measures 33½" overall, and the hilt and "shell" Guard are of bronze/brass alloy and the grip is wood which was once wire-bound. Overall the guard and grip are tight on the tang. The guard has a lovely federal eagle design, typical of this pattern. It has a minimized guard on the inner side, to avoid irritation. It comes in its original brass mounted steel scabbard.
Condition is very good, with a great look and patina. The hilt has become heavily tarnished as shown, and the grip is in fair condition for the age. The blade is relatively worn with oxidation across, but is in great shape overall. The leather blade washer is still intact. The scabbard shows similar oxidation across but has no major damage or dents.
Just out of the attic but ready display!
