Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Just received out of an old collection along with about many other swords! This is the standard Union Officer's Dress or Parade Sword Model 1860, as issued during the Civil War. It has a very nice etched 31 ½” steel blade, bearing the usual Federal Eagle and stands of arms.
The sword measures 37 ¼” overall, and the hilt and "shell" Guard are of bronze/brass alloy and the grip is wire bound leather. Overall the hilt is tight on the tang, and shows a lot of wear and age. The guard looks to be a bit bent, and the blade buffer is missing as well. The leather on the grip is worn, and this definitely looks to have seen a lot of service.

The Springfield Armory, more formally known as the United States Armory and Arsenal at Springfield located in the city of Springfield, Massachusetts, was the primary center for the manufacture of United States military firearms from 1777 until its closing in 1968. It was the first federal armory and one of the first factories in the United States dedicated to the manufacture of weapons. The site is preserved as the Springfield Armory National Historic Site, Western Massachusetts' only unit of the national park system. It features the world's largest collection of historic American firearms.
The guard has a lovely federal eagle design, typical of this pattern. It has a minimized guard on the inner side, to avoid hip irritation. It comes in its original brass mounted nickel plated steel scabbard, which unfortunately has lost the drag fitting.
Condition is good, with a great look and patina on the sword and scabbard. The blade is relatively worn, and shows the etching very well, but it has no major damage or dents.
