Original U.S. Civil War Era Artillery Pull Firing Lanyard For Friction Primer Artillery Pieces
Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of a “pull” lanyard as used for artillery pieces during the Civil War. The wood turned handle, hemp rope and hook are all in fantastic condition, surprising for the age! The length of the rope is rather short, meaning this was used on the much smaller types of artillery pieces, possibly for the small signal cannons.
The wood handle measures 4”in length with a 1” width that gradually narrows to about a half inch in the center. The hemp rope length is approximately 52” in length and is attached to a steel hook. The lanyards that measure 6 feet were for the standard artillery pieces while the 12 foot lanyards were meant for the large “siege” / defense cannons. It is our belief that this lanyard due to its length was for the much smaller signal cannons.
A lovely example of an item that is still in use to this day! Comes more than ready for further research and display.
