Original U.S. Civil War Era .31cal Percussion Revolver by W. Irving of New York circa 1860 - Serial 2037

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice small Percussion Six shot .31 caliber revolver, which resembles an 1858 Remington Navy Revolver but scaled down. It is marked on the top of the barrel:-

ADDRESS. W. IRVING. 20. CLIFF. ST. NEW YORK.

It was suggested that this was built using a James Reid Patent, however we cannot find more information on this at present. It does have serial number 2037 marked on the bottom front of the solid frame, with shortened number 37 under the grips, on the underside of the barrel, and on the rear of the cylinder.

In an original matured finish of blued turned to brown, the revolver is crisp and retains its under the barrel loading lever. It has walnut wood grips and is generally as it came out of the attic, A SLEEPER. The cylinder does not rotate when the revolver is cocked as the "hand" appears to be non functioning or absent. Sold as a back-up revolver for Union Officers, these were easy to carry, usually out of sight for an urgent need.

Ready to get a really good cleaning and repair, or to display as found.
