Original U.S. Civil War Confederate Georgia Made Cavalry Sabre

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice example of a Georgia-made Confederate Enlisted Man’s Cavalry Sabre, most likely made by Louis Haiman of Columbus, Georgia. The sword has typical features seen with the sabres made by his manufactory, such as long tapered unstopped fuller, curved handle, and single iron wire wrap on the handle. Of note are the forging flaws near the ricasso of the blade, one of the indicative features of a Georgia-Made Sabre. Generally, Georgian Cavalry Sabres have wooden grips wrapped in oil cloth. This particular Sabre is wrapped in leather. The leather is well worn, and matched the condition of the hilt, but may possibly be a later replacement.

Blade Measures 34" , with an overall sword length of 40”. The blade is overall brown/gray with pitting throughout. The blade does exhibit some dings to the edge.

The Scabbard is not the correct matching scabbard for a Georgia-Made Sabre, but an Original U.S. Model 1840 Cavalry Saber Scabbard, which fits perfectly. This could very well possibly be an original replacement from the time. Scabbard body has brown iron patina.
