Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is the finest Colt M1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver that we have seen in some time, and definitely the best we have ever offered for sale. Aside from the rare 5" barrel, the cylinder scene is almost fully complete, visible around the entire cylinder, something that just isn't seen.
The Colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 73761 can be found on all major parts and indicates the year of manufacture as 1853, meaning this Colt revolver falls right into the U.S. Civil War period. All major components show clear serial number, including the cylinder axis pin and loading lever, which have a shortened numbers. This is an "ALL MATCHING" example, and it's a great one.
Six shot percussion, .31 caliber with a special order 5" barrel, with all serial numbers matching. In nice tight condition with a great aged finish throughout. Brass trigger guard and grip frame even have traces of the original nickel plating on parts. There is no caliber marking, as at this time the pocket pistols in .36 had not bee introduced.
Most importantly, the original "Stagecoach Robbery" cylinder engraving can still be seen, and is almost completely intact! The COLT'S PATENT marking is intact as well, and the engraving throughout the cylinder is visible. Appears to be in perfect functioning condition and is nicely marked in a double line across frame end top of the octagonal barrel-

The walnut grips are in very good shape, with probably over 90% of the original piano varnish still present, giving the grips a lovely orange color. The revolver is tight with firm lock-up and the action functions well, though the hand is a bit worn, so it can be finicky.
This is an excellent '49 Pocket dating from the Civil War and is as tight as a drum; a wonderful acquisition for any collection. If you you were waiting for a truly choice example, this is the one!
