Original U.S. Civil War Colt M1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Cylinder Scene made in 1863 - Serial 236057
Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 236057 can be found on all major parts, and indicates the year of manufacture as 1863, meaning this Colt revolver falls right into the U.S. Civil War. All major components show clear serial number, including the barrel wedge and loading lever, which have shortened numbers.
Six shot percussion, .31 caliber with a long 5" barrel, all serial numbers matching. In nice tight condition with nice aged finish and some old pitting marks evident. There is a good amount of the original cylinder "Stagecoach Holdup Scene" engraving visible, along with a clear COLT'S PATENT. Appears to be in perfect functioning condition and is clearly marked in a line across the top of the octagonal barrel -
ADDRESS.COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.
The walnut grips are in very good shape, with a lovely color and the expected patina of age. They still have almost all of the original "Piano Varnish" finish that was applied to these at the factory. The revolver is tight with firm lock-up and the action functions correctly. The bore shows clear lands and grooves, though does have some fouling and corrosion.
This is a very nice '49 Pocket dating from the Civil War and is as tight as a drum; a wonderful acquisition for any collection.
