Original U.S. Civil War Colt M1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver with Cylinder Scene made in 1859 - Serial 155675
Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 155675 can be found on the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard and grip frame. The loading rammer, cylinder axis pin, and barrel wedge all have a shortened version of this number, making this a very nice "ALL MATCHING" revolver, totally unmessed with, and it's a nice one.
The serial number indicates indicates the year of manufacture as 1859, just before the U.S. Civil War, so it almost certainly saw service during the conflict. Five shot percussion, .31 caliber with a short 4" barrel, in nice tight condition with nice aged finish on the steel, and much of the original nickel plating on the brass components. This is something we rarely see, and there is also most of the original cylinder "Stagecoach Holdup Scene" engraving visible, along with a clear COLT'S PATENT over the serial number marking.
The Colt early two line address is still well marked in two lines across the top of the octagonal barrel -
ADDRESS.COL. SAML COLT
NEW YORK CITY
The walnut grips are in very good shape, with a lovely color and the expected patina of age. They still have most of the original "Piano Varnish" finish that was applied to these at the factory. The revolver does function, however the cylinder lock spring is weak, so the revolver will not index properly, as the lock does not prevent the cylinder from moving. The bore shows clear lands and grooves, with a partly bright finish with oxidation and wear.
This is a very nice '49 Pocket dating from the early Civil War, a wonderful acquisition for any collection.
