Original U.S. Civil War Colt M1849 Pocket Percussion Revolver made in 1871 - Serial 327953

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 327953 can be found on all major parts, and indicates the year of manufacture as 1871, definitely after the Civil War. All major components show clear serial numbers, though the cylinder and cylinder axis pin have shortened numbers.

The revolver is five shot percussion, .31 caliber with a standard 4" barrel, all serial numbers matching. In nice tight condition with nice aged finish and some old pitting marks evident.  Appears to be in fully functioning condition and is clearly marked in a line across the top of the octagonal barrel -

The walnut grips are in very good shape, with a lovely color and the expected patina of age. They still have most of the original "Piano Varnish" finish that was applied to these at the factory. The revolver is tight with firm lock-up and the action functions correctly. The bore shows clear lands and grooves, though does have fouling and corrosion.

This is a very nice '49 Pocket revolver and is as tight as a drum; a wonderful acquisition for any collection.
