Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. The colt "Pocket Percussion" Model 1849 revolvers in .31cal are essentially scaled down versions of the larger Navy Model 1851 in .36cal, and were developed concurrently. The serial Number 215345 can be found on all major parts, and indicates the year of manufacture as 1863, meaning this Colt revolver falls right into the U.S. Civil War. All major components show clear serial number, including the barrel and loading lever, which have shortened numbers.
Six shot percussion, .31 caliber with a long 5" barrel, all serial numbers matching. In nice tight condition with polished steel finish and some old pitting marks evident. Traces of the original cylinder engraving can still be seen, but it has almost completely worn away. Appears to be in perfect functioning condition and is nicely marked in a line across the top of the octagonal barrel (partly faded)-
The walnut grips are in very good shape, with a lovely color and the expected patina of age. These originally often had piano varnish applied, but this one no longer has any traces of it. The revolver is tight with firm lock-up and the action functions correctly.
This is a very nice '49 Pocket dating from the Civil War and is as tight as a drum; a wonderful acquisition for any collection.
