Original Item. Only One Available. From an old U.S, Civil War collection this 32 1/2" barrel Short Musket was intended for for Artillery troopers to use as well as servicing their field pieces.
The percussion lock is marked under the hammer with the Federal Eagle insignia, next to U.S. / BRIDESBURG, with a date of 1864 on the tail. This indicates contract manufacture by the Philadelphia firm of Alfred Jenks & Son, owners and operators of the Bridesburg Machine Works in Pennsylvania. There also is a PA stamped over the breech of the barrel, possibly indicating issue to Pennsylvania troops. Both barrel bands are U marked, with the standard U.S. on the butt plate.
The rear sight is absent and the Wood full stock comes to 3" of the barrel's muzzle and the stock retains it's original steel nose cap and the ram rod is still present. The lock needs some adjustment, as it can fire at half cock. We checked the bore, and it is oxidized, with little sign of rifling, if there ever was any. All steel trigger guard and Butt Plate are still in place, and the musket retains the original tulip head cleaning / ram rod. This would have been referred to as a "Short Musket" for use of Sappers and Artillerymen.
The Wood stock is in really good shape and fully complete. An original Civil War Musket, still in its military configuration with a lot of charm, fully cleaned and ready to display!
