  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a remarkable and authentic piece of history - a trade tomahawk head that was likely made by a British or American blacksmith during the 18th century. The tomahawk's head is in good condition despite some pitting, and has a distinct look with evident crude iron tool markings. The blade is designed for cutting and chopping, and was likely used for tasks such as felling small trees, building structures and making firewood. The handle of this example is completely reproduction with an added grain pattern on top that is heavily worn away.

The length of the head of the tomahawk measures approximately 6 inches with an edge width of 3 3/4 inches, while the handle is about 16 5/8 inches long. The handle has heavy wear to the finish which makes it look quite unattractive, so this example could certainly use a new shaft. There is some paint residue on the head but stamped onto the sides are some interesting patterned hallmarks which require further research. This example came to us with the provenance that it was found in Mohawk Valley, New York.

This is a good example of a Colonial blacksmith-made trade tomahawk head with a later-added shaft! Comes ready for display.
