  • Original Item: Only One Available. This very nice example of a fore and aft Officer's hat is complete and fully lined in dark blue silk type material. A type of bicorne hat, its style is very similar to the 1812 War headwear of the early 19th Century. The interior is marked by the Boston maker in gold:

    PLATT
    29
    SCHOOL STREET
    BOSTON

The BLIV 1798 cypher in the front indicates issued to the Boston Light Infantry Volunteers, founded in 1798. Originally intended to keep order, the unit became known as the “Tigers”. In one form or another they lasted until 1862, when they were incorporated into the 43rd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, responding to an appeal from then President Abraham Lincoln. Due to their prior nickname, they became known as the “Tiger Regiment”.

In nice overall condition showing some wear but still the gilt elements to badge and end mounts it displays wonderfully.
