The United States occupation of Nicaragua from 1912 to 1933 was part of the Banana Wars, when the US military invaded various Latin American countries from 1898 to 1934. The formal occupation began in 1912, even though there were various other assaults by the U.S. in Nicaragua throughout this period. American military interventions in Nicaragua were designed to stop any other nation except the United States of America from building a Nicaraguan Canal.

Nicaragua assumed a quasi-protectorate status under the 1916 Bryan–Chamorro Treaty. President Herbert Hoover (1929–1933) opposed the relationship. On January 2, 1933, Hoover ended the American intervention.

The Items In This Lot:
- Cased Nicaraguan Medal of Merit With Ribbon: The medal is awarded by the President to any person who has distinguished himself, or who may hereafter distinguish himself by extraordinary heroism or distinguished service to the Nicaraguan Government, such heroism or distinguished service not being sufficient to justify the presenting of a Presidential Medal of Merit, a Medal of Distinction, or a Cross of Valor. The medal was instituted on 16 September 1932. The case, medal and separate ribbon is all in lovely condition.

- Nicaraguan Medal of Merit Badge: Not much information exists on these, but we believe this to be a different classed award which was worn on the chest but attachment of screw back.

- x4 USMC / Nicaraguan National Guard Collar Devices: The single crescent was the rank insignia for a Sub-lieutenant / 2nd Lt. in the Guardia Nacional. The smaller triangle devices was also worn on the collar and was meant to identify the Marines and or Nicaraguan soldiers serving in the Guardia Nacional.
