Original Item: Only One Available. This is a good service-used example of the U.S. Model 1892 Krag rifle bayonet, manufactured at Springfield Armory and dated 1903, complete with an early-pattern all-steel scabbard fitted with a swivel belt hanger. The bayonet was designed for the U.S. Krag-Jørgensen service rifle family and belongs to the final years of Krag production, immediately before the Model 1903 Springfield began replacing it. This example retains its original smooth-pattern wood grips, functional locking catch, and correct 11 3/4” class blade, while the steel surfaces show considerable oxidation and evidence of period or later sharpening.
The Model 1892 was adopted for the U.S. Army’s new .30 caliber Krag-Jørgensen rifle and remained the standard bayonet for the Krag family through the 1890s and into the opening years of the 20th century. The Smithsonian identifies the pattern specifically as the U.S. Model 1892 Krag Rifle Bayonet, and specialist bayonet references document production at Springfield Armory from 1894 through 1903.
This example is in good condition, with the original bright finish oxidized to a gray coloration. Blade shows signs of sharpening, and of honest use, most likely in a tropical environment. The 1892 pattern "smooth" grips are in good condition with just a few dents and chips, and are held in place by ground flat domed rivets. The wood does show some wear but nothing too serious.

The scabbard is in fair condition, with a heavily pitted blued finish, and a loose first pattern swivel which should still work. The scabbard body is dented, with some heavy surface rust.
With its 1903 date, U.S. ricasso marking, original smooth wood grips, functional locking catch, K 53 grip stamp, and early swivel-hanger steel scabbard, this is a strong representative example from the closing period of Krag service. The sharpened edge, oxidized gray blade, pitted and dented scabbard, and loose hanger show substantial age and use, while the surviving markings and complete basic configuration make it well suited to a collection focused on the Krag rifle, Spanish-American War era equipment, early U.S. overseas service, or the transition from the 19th-century Army to the Model 1903 Springfield.
