Original U.S. Army Indian Wars 141st Infantry "Remember the Alamo" Kepi by Hortsmann

Original Item: Only One Available. This wonderful totally genuine United States Army 141st Infantry "Remember the Alamo" kepi used during the Indian Wars of the 1880s. This U.S. Army Model 1875 Chasseur Pattern Kepi features fabric of dark blue wool broadcloth. The crown stands 2.5" high at the front, 4." at the rear seam and the top is 4 3/4" in diameter. The body of the cap meets a band of wool seamed only at the back and stiffened with leather. The cap's interior is lined with brown cotton. The leather sweatband is 1 3/8" wide. There is a silver maker logo to the center of the interior crown which reads WM. H. HORSTMANN COMPANY, PHILADELPHIA.

The flat visor is original to the hat, and composed of black patent leather. The kepi has a gorgeous bullion embroidered 141st infantry insignia at front center, a braided gold strap with correct brass eagle buttons.

The 141st U.S. Infantry Regiment ("First Texas") 1917, "The Alamo Regiment". Their motto "Remember the Alamo" Since some units of the 141st trace lineage to the Texas Revolution of 1836, the Regimental motto reflects those roots.

The distinguished lineage of the 141st includes units tracing origins to the Texas Revolution, such as Company A, First Texas, 1836, and other infantry companies of the First Texas formed in the 1870s and 1880s. The Second Texas lineage included the Austin Greys, 1876; The Bryan Rifles, 1877; The Brenham Greys, 1877; The Calvert City Guards, 1897; The Jones Rifles, 1879, the Manning Rifles, 1879 and Company G, the Navasota Rifles, 1880. Companies from the First and Second Texas were part of the First Texas Volunteers in the Spanish American War, serving as part of the Army of Occupation of Cuba from December 26, 1898 to March 25, 1899, returning then to state service.
