Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Otis A. Smith of ROCK FALLS Connecticut was not related to the "SMITH" of Smith & Wesson. Otis applied for and received his own patents and went into business by himself in 1870. This early Otis A. Smith Revolver, serial numbered 905, has an ALL BRASS frame AND BARREL! Marked on the top strap:
O. A. SMITH, ROCK FALLS, CONN.
The revolver is 5 shot in approx .32 Rimfire caliber or slightly larger, and looks like it was originally Nickel or Silver plated, which can still be seen in areas. The spur style trigger has a very quick trigger pull. It has O.A.S. monogrammed Gutta-percha grips, one of which has a small chip missing from the under side. The 3 inch barrel has a bright bore with good rifling, with some pitting at the muzzle. Mechanically the revolver functions fine, but as with any revolver of this age, it has some quirks, and can be a bit finicky.
A rare early OTIS A. SMITH revolver having brass barrel and frame. Made for the post Civil War self defense market these small revolvers were very popular on River Boats etc as they were easily concealed. The business only prospered for a few years and faltered in the 1890s.
In fine condition and ready to display.
