Original U.S. American Revolutionary War Era Hunting Sword with Stag Handle

Item Description

Original Item. Only One Available. This is a fantastic American-made hunting sword from the Revolutionary War era. The sword features a stag handle and custom-cut brass hilt with some beautiful artwork under the crossguard and on the pommel. The blade is engraved on both sides with three stars and a crescent moon.

The sword has a 21” blade and is 25⅞” overall. The very tip of the blade is bent or broken off, and there are a few small chips in the blade near the top, and on the false edge, but the blade is in great shape overall for its age. There are areas of light oxidation near the ricasso and around the false edge.

The stag grip is in fantastic condition with no cracks or serious damage. It has a fantastic patina. The hilt itself is very worn and there is a crack/break in the handguard about one inch from the blade, which doesn’t appear to cause any serious issues. The blade is not very tight on the hilt and the grip does shift a bit when moved, but this isn’t very serious either. The handguard has an etching of an animal’s face in the middle, and the crossguard has a great etching of an animal, likely a ram or sheep. The bottom of the pommel has some beautiful vinery etched on, all hand-done during the period.

This is a gorgeous sword with a ton of history that requires a great deal more research! Comes ready for further research and display.
