Original Items: Only One Set Available. This set of toy tanks from the 1930s includes the following pieces:
- 1930s Sunny Andy Tank by Wolverine of Pittsburg, PA. Clockwork toy resembling a First World War tank, made from tinplated lithographed mild steel. The tank has a total of eight wheels, on which run two rubber belts resembling caterpillar tracks (belts absent). On either side of the tank is a red sponson, from which projects a gun. The toy is patterned overall with a green and black camouflage scheme on a yellow ground. The camouflage resembles the branches of a tree. Non-Functional. 14½” long.
- 1930s Large orange landship style tank with adjustable barrels. Very crude and non-mechanical. 12½” long.
- Small adorable mechanical tank with a bar that turns it onto its back and back to its front to continue driving, an adorable little piece that still works! Does slow down and stop sometimes but being as old as it is, it’s a miracle it works at all! 4” long.
The tanks came to us from the American Armoured Foundation, Inc. Tank and Ordnance Memorial Museum. The AAF Tank Museum was a living memorial dedicated to the Tank and Cavalry soldiers of the world. Before 1981 some of the artifacts that make up the AAF Tank Museum was a private collection belonging to Mr. William Gasser. Mr. Gasser felt that his collection would be beneficial in educating present and future generations to the sacrifices made and the technologies gained during war. Therefore, in 1981 the AAF Tank Museum was established as a non-profit charitable organization, and Mr. Gasser's donated his private collection to the Tank Museum. Mr. Gasser is still active as Volunteer Director and Curator of the Tank Museum and his knowledge of military history has been a great asset to the museum. Unfortunately after 20 years of operation it had to close its doors, which is when these was acquired.
