Original U.S. 1904 Dated Large 45 Star National Flag - 6 by 10 Feet

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. Now these are hard to come by! On January 4, 1896, Utah was officially admitted as the 45th State in the United States. On July 4th of that year, the U.S. 45 Star flag was introduced as the new National flag, and would remain so until July 3rd, 1908, when the 46 Star Flag was introduced following the November 16, 1907 addition of Oklahoma to the Union.

Only made for just 12 years, these flags are quite rare. This United States National Flag currently measures a nice large 68" x 117" in size, meaning that this is a 6 by 10 foot flag, which has probably shrunk a few inches. The flag retains partial original stampings in the header one of which is the year 1904.

The flag body is of wool bunting construction, with the stars separate cotton pieces sewn on, with a sturdy canvas header. The flag looks to have been in service for some time, and there are some repairs and patches throughout the flag. Also the material is quite worn, and the header has detached from the flag in areas due to the wool having torn, so it is in overall delicate condition.

We unfortunately do not know anything about this flag's history, as it certainly must have been interesting! It has the usual age toning, so the white is now somewhat beige. A very nice example, ready to display!

The general rule of thumb is that cotton flags were issued during WWII and nylon flags were issued during the Korean War. Flags made prior to WWII were made of a wool blend.

NOTE: due to the flag's large size, we were not able to take a picture of the entire flag without having the edge folded over.
