Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. Here we have a fine 18th century small sword that some may incorrectly refer to as a rapier. This is almost certainly colonial or U.S. manufacture, and it features a gorgeous triangular blade with the hilt guard being ornately decorated brass. The wooden grip is still in fair shape, and the blade itself retains its shape without any serious dents.
The crossguard lacks a handguard as many of these early small swords did. There are small faux wire wraps on both ends of the wooden grip, with the crossguard covering enough of the hand to suffice. The ball pommel is in great shape, and the blade is very tight to the hilt, with no pieces seriously damaged.
The blade has some chips to the edges as shown, but its finish is still well-retained and has developed a beautiful patina. This is a gorgeous small sword worthy of further research and display. You really don’t find them in this humble of condition anymore.
