  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent example of what appears to be an unused 50" × 80" Flag of Switzerland, also known as the “Federal Cross” or “Swiss Cross”. The flag itself was made by the Hamburg (germany) based firm of Fahnen-Fleck. On August 9, 1940, Germany and Switzerland signed a trade agreement that provided that Germany supply Switzerland with raw materials, including coal and iron. In return, the Swiss agreed to allow the Germans to transit across its territories to bring in goods from Italy. This agreement would have also allowed for the purchase and transfer of cloth items such as this flag.

According to the 2017 flag law (SR 232.21), "the Swiss flag shows a Swiss cross on a square background". Special provisions are made for the naval ensign and for civil aircraft identification. The Swiss cross is defined as:

"a white, upright, free-standing cross depicted against a red background, whose arms, which are all of equal size, are one-sixth longer than they are wide."

Swiss Standard German consistently uses Fahne (cognate with vane) rather than the term Flagge used for national flags in Germany. The name of the flag of the Swiss Confederation is a nominal compound, Schweizerfahne.

The flag is in wonderful condition and comes more than ready for further research and display.
