This is an unusual Cold War era Swiss all-steel training or drill rifle constructed in the general form of the SIG Sturmgewehr 57, the distinctive service rifle adopted by the Swiss Army during the late 1950s. Unlike a functional Stgw 57, this example is a solid training representation constructed almost entirely from metal and accompanied by a leather sling. Its substantial weight, simplified construction, and oversized approximately 51 1/2” overall length make it an especially interesting piece of Swiss military training equipment.
The training rifle is completely made from metal besides the sling, which is leather. This is one of the heaviest training rifles out there, and is built with a rotating carry handle, which moves freely and works great. The sling is in great condition without any flaws or damage.
Condition overall is good, with the expected wear and handling marks from storage. The leather sling is particularly well preserved.
With its massive all-steel construction, unmistakable Stgw 57-inspired profile, original-style leather sling, substantial weight, and unusual 51 1/2” overall length, this is an intriguing piece of Cold War Swiss military material. It provides an impressive physical representation of one of Switzerland’s most recognizable postwar service rifles.
