Original Item: Only One Available. This is a rare, excellent condition Swedish M1914 Bayonet produced for M1894/14 6.5mm Mauser Carbines. The Bayonets were also issued To Stockholm Palace Guards for attachment to their M1945 Carl Gustav SubMachine Guns (see pages 255-256 & Page 263 of The Bayonet Book By Watts & White).
The bayonet measures 18 1/4" overall, with a 13" blade with medial ridge which is double edged for the last 4 ½” to the tip. This example is early production at Eskilstuna Jernmanufactur AB (Eskilstuna Iron Manufacturing, Inc.), as evidenced by the maker's trademark on the spine, which is on anchor on the blade spine and a crown on the grip spine. Most were marked on the ricasso. It is not known when EJEAB changed from marking the spine to marking the ricasso. Later examples produced by Carl Gustaf Stads were marked on the ricasso.
The cross guard with muzzle ring and curved pommel with spring catch are in similar excellent condition. The wood grips are superb and secured by the correct screws. The grip is fitted with the correct scabbard retaining catch with a knurled top square button. The odd hilt design gives away that this is a bayonet designed for a rifle that wasn't originally designed to mount a bayonet. In 1914, M1894 Carbines were altered by the addition of a nose cap that incorporated a bayonet mount. The hilt incorporates a locking device to secure the bayonet to the scabbard.
The bayonet is complete with its flat steel scabbard with frog stud and tear drop end. The body of the scabbard is dent free, though years of storage have worn away the original black finish almost completely. The tear drop end is stamped with the number 056.
There is a regimental marking on the crossguard, sadly we have been unable to trace it:
7K5 No 70
Blade is in near mint condition except for runner marks.
This bayonet is in beautiful condition and is bound to add that sharp look you need in your edged weapons collection!

A bayonet is a knife, dagger, sword, or spike-shaped weapon designed to fit on the end of the muzzle of a rifle, musket or similar firearm, allowing it to be used as a spear-like weapon. From the 17th century to World War I, it was considered a primary weapon for infantry attacks. Today, it is considered an ancillary weapon or a weapon of last resort.
The popular image of World War I combat is of a wave of soldiers with bayonets fixed, "going over the top" and charging across no man's land into a hail of enemy fire. Although this was the standard method of fighting early in the war, it was rarely successful. British casualties on the first day of the Battle of the Somme were the worst in the history of the British army, with 57,470 British casualties, 19,240 of whom were killed.
During World War I, no man's land was often hundreds of yards across. The area was usually devastated by the warfare and riddled with craters from artillery and mortar shells, and sometimes contaminated by chemical weapons. Heavily defended by machine guns, mortars, artillery and riflemen on both sides, it was often covered with barbed wire and land mines, and littered with the rotting corpses of those who were not able to make it across the sea of bullets, explosions and flames. A bayonet charge through no man's land often resulted in the total annihilation of entire battalions.
