Original Swedish Brass Mounted Flintlock Dragoon Pistol - circa 1780 - 1800

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a lovely late 18th Century flintlock dragoon pistol originating from what we believe is Sweden or elsewhere in Northern Europe, made circa 1780-1800. It is all brass mounted, including the characteristic large Germanic brass side plate, and measures 18 inches in overall length, with a 11 1/2 inch .68" caliber smoothbore barrel. The only marking to be found is an ornate CROWN over S, faintly stamped onto the lock. This is a type that we have not encountered before, and it is definitely a bit spartan in construction, most likely indicating military issue.

The lock and barrel show a lovely oxidized patina, while the brass fittings have matured to a lovely "mustard" color. The stock is in very good shape, showing a lovely amber color, having been varnished long ago, possibly during its service life. There is some horizontal cracking on the grip area, which looks to be from the wood itself splitting a bit due to age, not due to being dropped. The lock is fully functional, holding at half cock and firing at full. There is a ramrod under the barrel, but it is a wooden rod and most likely only for display.

A lovely late 18th Century Swedish Flintlock Dragoon Pistol, ready to research and display!
