Original Spanish WWII M1941 Bolo Bayonet by Toledo Arms Factory With Steel Scabbard

Original Item: Very Few Available. This is a wonderful example of a WWII era Spanish M1941 bolo bayonet by the world renowned Toledo Arms Factory. Toledo steel, historically known for being unusually hard, is from Toledo, Spain, which has been a traditional sword-making, metal-working center since about the Roman period, and came to the attention of Rome when used by Hannibal in the Punic Wars. It soon became a standard source of weaponry for Roman legions. Toledo steel was famed for its high quality alloy.
The M1941 bayonet was designed as a replacement for the M1907 Artillery Bolo. The Machete Bayoneta Modelo 1941, retains the M1907 Artillery Bolo's blade profile and heavy crosspiece but with a shorter blade. It was rather impractical and unpopular with the troops to which it was issued. The M1941 was the standard bayonet issued with the 8mm Mauser M1943 short rifle.
The 9 ¾” bolo blade is in excellent condition and is marked on the ricasso with the Crowned Toledo arsenal stamp. The obverse ricasso bears the serial number “3757” over the letter “I.” The checkered wooden grip scales are in worn, chipped condition and the press-stud locking mechanism works perfectly.
The steel scabbard is in good condition but does have dents present. The serial number does not match the blade and reads as 2096. Both the bayonet and scabbard do have a rather heavy amount of grease present from when they were in storage, but once cleaned up they will look fantastic.
Comes more than ready for further research and display.
