  • Original Items. Only One Set Available. This is an interesting Spanish Civil War and early Franco-era white uniform grouping consisting of a jacket, matching trousers, and white belt. The jacket retains elaborate shoulder boards, a four-place ribbon bar reflecting Spanish Civil War service, and buttons that appear associated with the Franco-era state or guard establishment. Its exact civil or governmental office has not yet been identified.

The jacket has a four-place ribbon bar including the “Mutilado de Guerra” or “Mutilated in War” medal, the Cruz del Merito Militar con distintivo rojo, the Medalla de Campaña, and the Italian War Merit Cross, Spanish Civil War type.

Taken together, these decorations strongly indicate that the wearer was a veteran of the Spanish Civil War and had received recognition for wartime service. The Italian decoration reflects the close military relationship between Nationalist Spain and Fascist Italy during the Civil War, when substantial Italian forces and matériel supported the Nationalist war effort.

The jacket bears shoulder boards which are likely for a man of high civil rank, perhaps part of the Gobernador Civil. They are likely meant to represent his post-civil war position and rank. The jacket has interior padding for the shoulders. There is some staining to the exterior as shown. The buttons appears to be for the Franco Guard.

The included trousers are unmarked but match the jacket well. The belt has a buckle which appears to be for the Franco Guard, with a white-painted belt to match the uniform.

The four-place ribbon bar provides the clearest historical context for the wearer. Its combination of Spanish wartime decorations and an Italian award indicates service associated with the Nationalist side of the Spanish Civil War, while the later white uniform and elaborate rank insignia appear to represent the wearer’s postwar official position.
