Original Spanish-American War Era Spanish Officer Pioneer Machete Sword by Frederick Esser of Germany With Scabbard

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This Machete Sword is an exceptional specimen that provides a glimpse into the Spanish-American war of 1898, which lasted approximately four months. It is worth noting that these swords were referred to as both "Pioneer Machetes" and "Officer's Swords," and it is believed that Spanish forces used them for a variety of purposes.

Given that many areas in Cuba and the Philippines were heavily forested, these machetes were an essential tool for the soldiers to navigate through the dense jungle-like foliage. The sword's design is unique and reflects the harsh conditions of the terrain. The blade is long and wide, and the edge is sharp enough to cut through vegetation with ease.

The Machete Sword's overall design is both practical and aesthetically pleasing. The sword's blade has distinctive markings that suggest it was crafted by a skilled German artisan. The sword's age and significance make it a valuable piece for collectors and history enthusiasts alike.

This blade is a truly remarkable piece of artistry. The 28-inch straight blade is expertly crafted to be about 1 1/4 inches wide, giving it the perfect balance of strength and flexibility. Its slim design makes it ideal for handling light brush and leaves. The full length of this weapon is approximately 34 inches, giving you a wide range of motion and control.

The hilt of this weapon is equally impressive. The Spanish Eagle pommel is a beautiful accent that adds a touch of elegance to the overall design. The hilt is solid and made of nickel silver alloy, making it incredibly durable and able to withstand the rigors of heavy use.

The checkered grip scales on the hilt are held in place by screws, which offer a secure and comfortable grip for the user. The attention to detail in the design is simply stunning, making this weapon a true work of art.

The markings on the ricasso, which is the flat, unsharpened part of the blade just above the handle, indicate that the machete was manufactured by Frederick Esser Co, Elberfeld, Germany, a company that was founded in 1857. This machete has a blade is in good condition, but it does show signs of use, including areas of light rusting and pitting. To preserve the machete's patina, we have left it uncleaned.

The machete comes with a beautifully tooled, embossed leather scabbard that has exquisite nickel fittings. Although there is some age degradation, the stitching appears to be mostly intact, and there are no splits or tears in the scabbard. This machete and scabbard set would make a wonderful addition to any collection.

A very nice example from the Spanish-American War. Ready to display!
