Original Item: Only One Available. This is the little known model 2005-W field telephone which were sent through the Lend Lease program to the Soviet Union during World War Two. The much more well known EE-8 model telephones were also sent through this program.
The model 2005-W is hybrid of the Soviet wartime era wood cased TAI-43 phones, with American designs internally. These were made by Connecticut telephone and electric. This pair came out of an East Coast collection, so we believe them to be samples or display models from the manufacturer, as the entirety of the contract seems to have been sent to the USSR never to return, unlike the EE-8s that flood the market.
The markings on this phone is dated 1943. The only other known surviving example of a model 2005-W field telephone is currently in a Russian museum and is also dated 1943. It’s safe to say production probably did not last long as Soviet domestic field telephone production recovered later in 1943.
The 2005-W field telephones were supplied to the USSR thru Amtorg Trading, a New York corporation with 100-percent USSR capital. The telephones were modified to accommodate a pair of 2C (2S) dry batteries of USSR manufacture yet could run as well, on two BA-30 dry batteries ("D" cells).
All designations on the 2005-W telephones as well as their schematics have been made in Russian (Cyrillic) letters. WHD = 280 х 230 х 115 mm, weight with two BA-30 - 5.4 kg.
No information about 2005-W supplies to the USSR could be found in the comprehensive War Department report of 1946.
