  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great Soviet propaganda poster from the “Great Patriotic War”, World War II. It depicts German soldiers running away from the battle against the Russians, with the German officer’s legs being drawn as horse’s legs with the caption Orlov’s Runners. Orlovs are a Russian racehorse breed, which makes this a very local topical reference that not all readers would understand.

The poster reads on the side:

The failure of the German summer offensive and the defeat of German troops near Orel and Belgorod indicate that the Red Army, in summer conditions, was able not only to consolidate, but also to develop its offensive successes.

The poster is meant to depict the German Army as weak and unable to combat the Soviets on their turf, with German soldiers running with crutches and their helmets too far down on their head. A really great piece of artwork done by Alexander M. Cay. The poster measures 14 x 17” and is in great shape overall with just some folding and light staining. Comes ready for further research and display!
