  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent original Soviet WWII magazine for the SVT-40 Tokarev self-loading rifle, with several clearly visible inspection and property markings. The SVT-40 was developed as part of the Soviet effort to introduce a modern semi-automatic infantry rifle before WWII and entered production shortly before the war. Although intended for much broader issue, wartime disruption and manufacturing demands prevented it from fully replacing the Mosin-Nagant rifle.

The magazine is of the standard detachable 10-round type used with the SVT-40. While SVT-38 and SVT-40 magazines are interchangeable, they have identifiable construction differences. Earlier SVT-38 magazines commonly have holes near the lower sides associated with their cup-style floorplates, while the later SVT-40 pattern uses a different floorplate arrangement and lacks these characteristic side holes. This example is therefore consistent with the SVT-40 pattern.

There are some minor differences between the SVT-38 and SVT-40 magazines, though they are interchangeable. The lack of holes on the sides makes this an SVT-40 example. The magazine is stamped on one side with several small Russian symbols in circles. It is also stamped:

    2
    KB231

The bottom is also stamped SA in a square for issue in the Finnish Army. The magazine has some moderate surface oxidation but functions well and will look great with your SVT-40!

The SVT-40, formally the Samozaryadnaya vintovka Tokareva, obrazets 1940 goda, or Tokarev self-loading rifle Model 1940, was the refined successor to the earlier SVT-38. It saw extensive service with the Red Army during WWII, even as the enormous pressures of wartime production ensured that the simpler Mosin-Nagant remained the predominant Soviet service rifle.

The combination of identifiable SVT-40 magazine construction, multiple Soviet inspection stamps, the 2 / KB231 marking, Finnish SA property stamp, and honest oxidation makes this a particularly interesting accessory for either a Soviet or Finnish WWII collection. It would pair especially well with an SVT-40 displaying evidence of Finnish capture or subsequent Finnish Army service.
