Original Item. Only One Available. Soviet Competition banners were awards given to individuals or teams for excelling in various fields, particularly in the Soviet Union's planned economy and industrial production. This is one such flag, with one sides bearing a beautiful embroidered Hammer & Sickle over the Earth with the bottom scroll reading PROLETARIANS OF ALL COUNTRIES, UNITE! With all phrases embroidered. The same phrase is in fourteen different languages or dialects on scrolls to the left and right.
The back of the flag has a gorgeous painted portrait of Lenin over the phrase “UNDER THE BANNER OF MARXISM-LENINISM, UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE COMMUNIST PARTY - FORWARD TO THE VICTORY OF COMMUNISM!”.
The painted text under the Hammer & Sickle is very worn, so it is difficult to translate. We know it refers to the Council of the DPO, or the “Voluntary Fire Prevention” (Dobrovolnoye Pozharnoye Obshchestvo), and that it is a competition banner. A good research project!
This is a very early example of one of these banners, with a full header instead of the three pole attachment loops often seen. There is some damage in the header from being hung, so this likely hung on the wall somewhere. The embroidery is just fantastic.
One of the best examples of a Soviet banner we have offered, certainly dating to the 1950s. Ready for display!
