Original Soviet Cold War Era Statue of WWII NKVD Officer with Damage

Item Description

Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs, abbreviated as NKVD, was the interior ministry and secret police of the Soviet Union from 1934 to 1946. The agency was formed to succeed the Joint State Political Directorate (OGPU) secret police organization, and thus had a monopoly on intelligence and state security functions. The NKVD is known for carrying out political repression and the Great Purge under Joseph Stalin, as well as counterintelligence and other operations on the Eastern Front of World War II. The head of the NKVD was Genrikh Yagoda from 1934 to 1936, Nikolai Yezhov from 1936 to 1938, Lavrentiy Beria from 1938 to 1946, and Sergei Kruglov in 1946.

This is an interesting statue of an NKVD officer, likely made during the late Cold War era. The statue shows the officer in his uniform with an Order of the Red Star on his left breast and NKVD insignia on his sleeves. He wears a correct visor cap and cross-strap belt with a holster.

The statue measures roughly 15½” tall. There is some damage as mentioned. The fingers on both of his hands have been glued back on, and the paper in his hands falls out easily, but will sit fine for display. It also appears that the head may have been detached at one point but glued back on. There are some chips across the statue including on the visor The statue appears to have originally had a beard which was painted over, and a small AH style mustache was painted over.

An interesting statue that will fit well in any WWII Soviet collection. Comes ready for further research and display.
