Original South African Boer 1850 Belgian Made 4 Bore Percussion Big Game ROAH Rifle

Item Description

Original Item. One of a kind. At first seeing this we thought it must be some sort of Rampart or Wall Gun, but we have since learned from a true authority that it is known as a ROAH rifle, expressly made for the Boer settlers of South Africa during the 1850's. It is a massive four (4) bore, 1" inch across the muzzle which is 25mm. It is totally unmarked other than the Liège, Belgium stamp of E. / L.G./ * in an oval.

The 30 1/2 inch long barrel is fitted with a three position flip sights, and the rifle measures 49" in overall length. With brass mounted furniture, this is a really big beast! We checked the bore, and it is dirty with fouling, but the rifling is still visible! From the era when Biggest was Best, these became outdated once the British Gun and Ammunition makers came out with the far more powerful but smaller cartridges of 450 and 500 Express calibers.

Nevertheless a formidable piece of artillery to face down your first Charging Elephant with! In excellent condition and ready to display!
