Original Item. Only One Available. This is a signed print of “Return of the Red Gremlin” by William S. Phillips, signed at the bottom by six of its crew members, including Pilot Paul W. Tibbets and Navigator Theodore J. Van Kirk. The frame is well-put together and the print is very clear. This is a limited run print, number 565 out of 1000. The frame comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity which is on the back.
After the success of Dawn, the World Forever Changed, his powerful image of the Enola Gay, a print countersigned by command pilot Paul W. Tibbets, as well as Thomas W. Ferebee, Theodore J. Van Kirk, and other crew members, William S. Phillips depicted another famous aircraft crewed by Tibbets, Ferebee, and Van Kirk. "I was pleased to create this image," the artist says, "which honors the Red Gremlin and the men associated with her."
To honor this B-17 which led the first 100-airplane daylight raid on occupied France and flew General Eisenhower to Gibraltar to command the invasion of North Africa, the print is countersigned by men who flew and maintained the aircraft during her illustrious career.
Signed by the crew of the Red Gremlin as follows:
Signatures:
- Brigadier General Paul W. TIBBETS, pilot
- Thomas W. FEREBEE, Bombardier
- Theodore J. "Dutch" VAN KIRK, navigator
- Herman HAAG, flight engineer/top turret gunner
- Zackie T. GOWAN, Jr., ball turret gunner
- Charles PEACH, assistant crew chief
This example has been framed with a reproduction bullion embroidered Red Gremlin patch in the center, which looks very good for display. The print is still clear, and it displays beautifully. The frame measures 25¼ x 28¼”. The frame comes with the original Certificate of Authenticity which is on the back.
Comes ready for further research and display.
