  • Original Item. Only One Available. This is an impressive framed limited edition print of Robert Taylor’s “Hurricane Force,” numbered 300 of 1250 and signed beneath the image by four distinguished Hawker Hurricane pilots who fought during the Battle of Britain: Peter Brothers, Frank Carey, Geoffrey Page, and Peter Townsend. The large frame measures approximately 30½” x 40½”, and the print remains clear and in excellent overall condition.

The edition was published in 1990 as part of Robert Taylor’s Battle of Britain Trilogy commemorating the 50th anniversary of the campaign. The other two prints in the series were “Eagle Attack” and “Summer Victory.”

“Hurricanes of No.257 Squadron attack a large force of Heinkel 111 and Dornier 17 bombers at 12,000 feet over London on 15th September 1940, during the climax of the Battle of Britain.”

The print pays tribute to the aircraft of the Battle of Britain, shooting down 80% of the RAF’s victories – the Hawker Hurricane – and was personally signed by four Battle of Britain Hurricane Aces:

    - Air Commodore Peter Brothers CBE DSO DFC*
    - Group Captain Frank Carey CBE DFC** AFC DFM
    - Squadron Leader Geoffrey Page DSO OBE DFC*
    - Group Captain Peter Townsend CVO DSO DFC*

Peter Brothers flew Hurricanes with No. 32 Squadron during the Battle of Britain before joining No. 257 Squadron as a flight commander. He was credited with 16 aerial victories over the course of his operational career.

Frank Carey was already an experienced combat pilot by the summer of 1940, having fought over France and during the Dunkirk evacuation. He became one of the RAF’s leading Hurricane pilots and later commanded fighter units in the Far East.

Geoffrey Page flew Hurricanes with No. 56 Squadron during the Battle of Britain. He was severely burned after being shot down on August 12th, 1940, but later returned to operational flying and became closely associated with the Guinea Pig Club for badly burned airmen.

Peter Townsend commanded No. 85 Squadron during the Battle of Britain and became one of the best-known RAF fighter leaders of the period. He later organized and commanded one of the RAF’s early Hurricane night fighter formations during the Blitz.

The Hawker Hurricane equipped more RAF fighter squadrons than the Supermarine Spitfire during the Battle of Britain and accounted for the greater share of confirmed German aircraft losses. Its stable gun platform, durable construction, and widespread availability made it central to Fighter Command’s defense of Britain.

The print has been professionally framed and presents clearly behind glazing. The frame is well assembled and suitable for immediate wall display.

The print measures 30 ½ x 40 ½” and is in excellent condition, one of the larger framed prints we have offered.

The numbered edition, large framed format, Robert Taylor composition, and signatures of four decorated Battle of Britain Hurricane pilots combine aviation art with direct personal associations to the men represented by the scene. The print is particularly relevant to collections focused on the Royal Air Force, Hawker Hurricane, Battle of Britain, signed veteran material, or Robert Taylor aviation artwork.
