Original Item. Only One Available. This is a signed print of “Dawn, The World Forever Changed” by William S. Phillips, signed at the bottom by five crew members of the Enola Gay, including Pilot Paul W. Tibbets and Navigator Theodore J. Van Kirk. The frame is well-put together and the print is very clear. There are two additional signatures with this piece as well. This is a limited run print, number 442 out of 1000. The frame comes with the original page showing the biographies of the men who signed it, and the original protector that the print was shipped in when it was originally purchased.
In this work, the "Enola Gay" is portrayed against a backdrop of a Pacific dawn. The rising sun, of course, is the symbol of Japan, but, in this case, it is a whole new dawn -f or the world and also for the United States. This is at the point when the "Enola Gay" crew executed a 360-degree turn over broken clouds above Iwo Jima. The time is 5:55 a.m. and, at an altitude of 9,300 feet, the aircraft that were in trail were allowed to close formation with "Enola Gay." The airplane is coming towards the viewer and a new era in aviation is dawning. Things would never be the same again.
The print was signed by the artist, William S. Phillips, and was countersigned by Paul Tibbets, Thomas W. Ferebee, Theodore VanKirk, George R. Caron, and Richard H. Nelson.
The frame also has two additional signatures including Morris R. Jeppson, Electronics Test Officer, and John J. Lesniewski, part of the Ground Crew, an A&E Mechanic.
An outstanding print with some very well-known signatures, ready for further research and display!
